Maruti Ritz Makes a Splash in India- Tomorrow

There are few cars that fit the requirements of India's hatchback buyers better than the new Maruti Ritz. It has everything — on paper — that customers in this segment want: space, quality, modern engineering and a choice of two very appealing engines. But is the new car as good as everyone expects it to be?

India's largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti is ready for its most awaited small car Maruti Ritz launch in India. Maruti Ritz launch is going to take place tomorrow and the hype surrounding of Maruti Ritz has been much more than any other vehicle launch in India. Maruti has made sure that everyone talking for Maruti Ritz, by its promos and the social media activity. Maruti Ritz will be the first hatchback car model which will meet all BS - IV emission norms. Maruti Ritz is the most awaited small car model since the Maruti announces the Maruti Ritz launch and now Maruti Ritz is ready to storm the hatchback segment with its stylish look and comfort like sedan.

The Ritz, also known as the Splash in other markets, is built on the same platform as the very successful Swift. It has all the up-to-date engineering that made the Swift so successful, as well as a spacious interior and a generous dose of style. Unlike the Swift, however, the target is not young style-conscious owners who enjoy a spirited drive. The Ritz is designed to appeal more as a family hatchback.

Under the hood of the gasoline version is Maruti's new 1.2-liter K-series four-cylinder engine, rated at 85 horsepower and 84 pound-feet of torque. The diesel is the same exceptional Fiat 1.3 Multijet, delivering 74 hp and 140 lb-ft.

With a stiff chassis and a well-engineered suspension, the Ritz tackles Indian roads with aplomb. Maruti has raised and softened the suspension on the Ritz more than on the Swift, which translates into better comfort, even on poor surfaces. Whereas the softer Ritz doesn't feel as enthusiastic to drive as the Swift, it is leagues better than Maruti's other tall boy, the Wagon R.

The Ritz makes its official debut on May 15, and prices will be announced then.

Inside Line says: A very accomplished family car that will deliver everything a premium hatch should, but with the added practicality of a tall-boy profile, the Ritz should be the next Indian blockbuster from Maruti. — Hormazd Sorabjee, Correspondent
